Rating
Byrdonis Egg is a Quest card obtained by choosing "Take the egg" at the event "Byrdonis Nest". Since it enters your deck but cannot be played, it functions essentially like a Curse card until hatched. Drawing it in hand has the drawback of reducing that turn's draw by one.
Reaching a Rest Site and choosing "Hatch" makes the egg disappear, granting the Relic "Byrd Chick" and the Attack card "Byrd Assault" (0 cost, 14 damage). However, hatching consumes one Rest Site action, requiring you to sacrifice a chance for Rest (HP recovery) or an upgrade.
Getting a 0-cost 14 damage card early on is simply strong. However, you need to consider the deck congestion while holding the egg and the opportunity cost of one Rest Site. On high Ascensions, HP management is tight, so the risk of sacrificing a rest becomes larger.
How to Use
- Once you take the egg, hatch it promptly at the next Rest Site. The longer you hold it, the worse your deck cycle gets.
- The decision between "Rest" and "Hatch" at a Rest Site depends on your current HP. Hatch if you have HP to spare; prioritize Rest if you're near death.
- "Byrd Assault" gained from hatching is excellent as early-game frontload at 0 cost 14 damage.
- The egg cannot be removed by card removal (since it's a Quest card).
Good Synergies
- Byrd Assault: The 0-cost 14 damage Attack gained from hatching. Upgrade raises it to 18 damage.
- Strength buffs: Byrd Assault is a 0-cost Attack, so it benefits easily from Strength.
- Draw cards: While the egg is in your deck, draw boosts mitigate the drawback.
